Privacy policy

What I collect, why, and what you can tell me to do about it. Short version: I take the minimum I need to answer you and do the work, I sell it to nobody, this site runs no analytics or ad tracking, and you can ask me to delete what I hold.

Who I am

MMEC, short for Market My Entertainment Centre, is a marketing practice run by Travis Kelly out of Sarnia, Ontario. It is a one-person operation, so the person handling your information is me.

The business operates as Market My Entertainment Centre.

Questions about this policy, and requests to see, correct, or delete what I hold about you, go to travis@marketmyec.com. If you would rather put it in writing, mail it to 1-1886 London Line, Sarnia, Ontario N7W 1B3, Canada.

What does this policy cover?

This site, the two forms on it, and the information I handle while doing marketing work for a venue.

It does not cover other sites you reach from links here, including Google, Meta, and whatever booking platform your venue runs. Those have their own policies and I have no control over them.

The law this is written against

Ontario has no private-sector privacy law of its own, so the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) governs commercial activity here.

Marketing email and text messages are separately governed by Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). If your venue is in Quebec, Quebec's Law 25 may also apply to information I handle for you.

What I collect

Information you hand over

  • Free scan form: your venue name, its city, and your email address.
  • Contact form: your name, email address, venue and city, venue type, number of locations, monthly ad spend, and whatever you write in the note field.
  • Anything you send me by email or mail.

Neither form asks for a phone number.

Information collected automatically

Rocket.net hosts this site. Like any web host, its servers log ordinary request data: IP address, browser and device type, the pages requested, and the page you arrived from. Those logs are kept for a limited period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted by the host.

When you submit a form, the site keeps a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for one hour so it can limit repeat submissions. It is not linked to your entry.

There are no analytics, advertising pixels, or tracking scripts on this site. See the cookies section below.

Information I receive while doing the work

During an engagement you may give me access to ad accounts, your Google Business Profile, your booking platform, your email list, and your analytics. That data belongs to your venue, not to me. I use it to do the job you hired me for and nothing else, and I hand access back when the engagement ends.

Why do I collect it?

  • To answer your enquiry and, if it goes that way, to quote on work.
  • To produce the free scan you asked for.
  • To deliver and support work you have contracted.
  • To send you email or text messages you have expressly agreed to receive.
  • To invoice you and keep the records the Canada Revenue Agency requires.
  • To meet a legal obligation where one applies.

I do not collect information for a purpose I have not listed, and I do not use what I collected for one purpose to do something unrelated.

Filling in a form is your consent for me to use what you typed to reply to you. That is the whole scope of it. Sending a form does not sign you up for anything.

Marketing email and SMS are separate. Those need express consent under CASL, which means a deliberate opt-in, not a pre-ticked box, and every message carries a working unsubscribe link.

You can withdraw consent at any time by emailing travis@marketmyec.com. Withdrawing it may mean I can no longer provide a service that depends on the information, and I will tell you plainly if that is the case.

Who else sees it?

I do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. There is no exception to that.

When you submit a form, what you typed is emailed to me at travis@marketmyec.com and a copy is stored in this site's WordPress database, which only I can sign in to. Some service providers necessarily handle that information in order to run:

  • Rocket.net, which hosts this site and its database.
  • Google Workspace, which runs the travis@marketmyec.com mailbox and sends the site's form emails.
  • The invoicing and payment tools used to bill clients.

Each is given the minimum needed to do its job. I will also disclose information where a court order, a law, or a regulator requires it, and I will tell you when I am permitted to.

Where is it stored?

This site and its database are hosted by Rocket.net. Some of the other providers above store data on servers outside Canada, mostly in the United States. While it is there it is subject to the laws of that country, including lawful access by foreign courts and government agencies. That is true of nearly every hosted tool, but you are entitled to know it rather than find out later.

How long do I keep it?

  • Enquiries that do not become work, including the copy stored on this site: 12 months, then deleted.
  • Client records and invoices: six years after the end of the tax year they relate to, which is what the Canada Revenue Agency requires.
  • Marketing list, if you join one: until you unsubscribe, then removed from the sending list and kept only on a suppression list so you are not accidentally added again.

Keeping it secure

The site is served over HTTPS, so what you type into a form is encrypted on its way to the server. Form entries stored on the site are private and visible only to signed-in administrators, which means me. Accounts holding personal information use unique passwords and two-factor authentication where the provider offers it. Access to a client's platforms is granted to me by named user rather than by shared password wherever the platform allows it.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and I am not going to claim otherwise. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm, I will report it to the Privacy Commissioner of Canada and notify the people affected, as PIPEDA requires.

Your rights

You can ask me to show you what personal information I hold about you, correct anything inaccurate, delete it where I am not legally required to keep it, or stop using it for a given purpose. Email travis@marketmyec.com and I will respond within thirty days, which is the limit PIPEDA sets.

There is no charge for a reasonable request.

Does this site use cookies or tracking?

No analytics, advertising pixels, or tracking cookies are installed on this site. If any are added, they will be named in this section before they go live, and a consent prompt will go up with them.

One thing is stored on your device: if you switch between the light and dark theme, your choice is saved in your browser's local storage so the site remembers it on your next visit. It never leaves your device, is not sent to me, and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings. Nothing else is stored.

Children

This site sells to venue operators, not to the public and not to children. I do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has sent me information, email me and I will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revised version goes up here with a new date at the top. A change that materially affects how I use information already collected will be sent to affected clients directly rather than quietly posted.

How do I make a complaint?

Bring it to me first at travis@marketmyec.com, or by mail to 1-1886 London Line, Sarnia, Ontario N7W 1B3. If you are not satisfied with how I handled it, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada at priv.gc.ca.
